MoE TEEP Grant Amount for 15 NCUE Projects of 7 Faculty Members Hits Record High
The Ministry of Education (MoE) has recently approved the 2023-2024 Taiwan Experience Education Program (TEEP) applications from various universities, and NCUE has received a grant of nearly NT$5.7 million, the third highest among national universities in Taiwan. Both the amount of grant and the number of participating departments and faculty members are the highest ever.
The amount of grant from the MoE has been growing year after year since NCUE called for TEEP projects in 2017. In the previous period (2022-2023), 12 projects were approved, with a grant of more than NT$3.67 million, and the number of trainees reached 39, who came from India, Indonesia, Pakistan, Vietnam, the U.S.A., Malaysia, etc. The Project Principal Investigators (PIs) of the program for this new period are 15 faculty members from the Institute of Optoelectronics, and the departments of Chemistry, Biology, Physics, Information Technology, Electrical Engineering and Mechatronic Engineering.
TEEP is a short-term professional research or internship program for outstanding young people from foreign countries, with the goal of enabling them to learn about Taiwan's advantages of higher education in a maximum duration of six months in Taiwan, and then to study or work here after the program ends. During their stay as interns in Taiwan, in addition to participating in research or laboratory work, the NCUE International Office also arranges for them to participate in cultural exchange activities with the other international students so that they can integrate into the local life and campus environment.
It is worth mentioning that 13 former TEEP trainees have already applied to study for degrees in the Department of Physics, Department of Chemistry, Department of Biology, or in the International Program for Master of Science in Materials and Biological Technology, and Science Education after the end of the program. This shows that the program has helped to build up the international reputation of the departments, and that it has attracted young people with potential from abroad by providing quality teaching and research resources, which is of positive significance for the development of NCUE’s internationalization.
The 2023-2024 TEEP fields of study include six core strategic industries (information and digital industries, cybersecurity industry, Taiwan precision health, green power and renewable energy, national defense and strategic industries, and strategic stockpile industries), as well as the 5+2 Industrial Transformation Plan (smart machinery, Asian Silicon Valley, green energy, biomedical industry, national defense, high-value agriculture, and circular economy).
According to the NCUE International Office, the application process is from the end of October to November each year. The Project PI needs to fill out the online application form announced by the MoE's TEEP Office (the form should be provided in PDF format to the International Office before submission). The MoE will announce the amount of funds approved and allocated to each school by the end of December and notifies the Project PI to provide the details of the recruitment of students so that it can be announced on the TEEP official website. The implementation period is from December of the current year to the end of December of the following year.
NCUE faculty members are welcome to contact Ms. Yu-Chen Chang (ext. 5124), Coordinator at the International Office, for more information about the program.
