NCUE Establishes Partnership with Premier Indian Institution to Expand Talent Development through Taiwan-India Resource Complementarity

NCUE has recently signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) and a student exchange agreement with the Indian Institute of Technology Gandhinagar (IITGN), further enriching its network of top-tier partner universities. IIT is India’s leading academic institution, and IITGN, a rising star among its branches, aspires to collaborate with NCUE extensively in areas such as industry-academia cooperation, internship programs, and student exchanges. This partnership aims to enhance NCUE’s role in international education and expand its influence in global talent development.
In July 2024, Dr. Amit Prashant, Vice Rector and Dean of Research & Development at IITGN, led a delegation to NCUE to discuss collaborations, including the Taiwan Experience Education Program (TEEP) and short-term semiconductor internship programs, laying the groundwork for this official partnership. The delegation also visited the College of Engineering. Later that year, IITGN Director Dr. Rajat Moona visited NCUE to formalize the partnership with International Dean Dr. Hon Man Lee. The signing ceremony was attended by Dean Chi-Yen Huang of the College of Science, Associate Professor Wen-Jan Yang from the Department of Electrical Engineering, Division Head Sally Chang from the Office of International and Cross-Strait Affairs (OICA), and Mandarin instructor Hao-Tsung Kao from the Taiwan Education Center in India.
During the ceremony, Dr. Lee highlighted NCUE’s initiatives in industry-academia collaboration, career counseling for international students in Taiwan, and TEEP. He expressed hope that the MOU would enable both institutions to leverage their complementary academic and industrial strengths, maximizing the benefits of collaboration in talent cultivation. Dr. Moona underscored IITGN’s commitment to fostering academic and industry relationships with Taiwan, noting that IITGN already offers Mandarin language courses supported by Taiwan’s Ministry of Education. These courses serve as a vital platform for fostering Taiwan-India connectivity and future collaboration. The two parties also discussed specific cooperative projects in science and engineering.
India, now the world’s most populous country, is a global hub for higher education talent and a key focus of NCUE’s New Southbound Policy initiatives. According to the 2024 National Institutional Ranking Framework (NIRF) published by the India Government, institutions from the IIT system dominate India’s academic rankings, with one IIT branch ranked first and seven branches, including IIT Kanpur—an existing NCUE partner—placed in the top ten. In addition to IITGN and IIT Kanpur, NCUE has also partnered with IIT Hyderabad in the past three years, strengthening ties with this prestigious academic network.
Founded in 2008, IITGN is a relatively young yet dynamic institution with significant academic potential. Despite its smaller scale, over 40% of its students participate in study abroad programs during their academic journey. This new partnership is expected to bring more vibrant international resources to NCUE, further advancing its global initiatives.
