Temple Asst. Vice President Visits NCUE to Promote Collaborative Dual-degree Program
Temple University's Assistant Vice President for Global Engagement, Erika Clemons, recently visited NCUE to hold an information session regarding Temple’s accelerated Dual Bachelor's Master's Degree (DBMD) program, which provides opportunities for NCUE students and alumni to earn their bachelor’s degree from NCUE and Master’s degree from Temple. Most programs in DBMD do not require GRE or GMAT scores for admission and they offer scholarships covering partial or full tuition fees. Ms. Clemons emphasized that the personalized support available to those who apply to the DBMD program throughout the application process, curriculum planning, accommodation, internships, and employment opportunities will greatly benefit NCUE students.
Temple University, a public institution with a 140-year history, comprises 17 schools and hosts over 33,000 students from 115 countries. It ranks among the top 350 universities around the world in the Times Higher Education (THE) rankings and is listed among the top 100 universities in the United States by the US News & World Report. Furthermore, it's recognized as an R1 (Highest Research Activity) institution by the Carnegie Classification of Institutions of Higher Education, placing Temple in the top four percent in research productivity nationwide. A partnership agreement between NCUE and Temple was established earlier this summer.
During her visit, Ms. Clemons and NCUE President, Ming-Fei Chen, and NCUE Dean of International Office, Lee Hon Wan, along with Temple's Taiwan Office Managing Director, Irene Tsai, engaged in extensive discussions about mutual collaboration. President Chen expressed expectations for elevating NCUE academic quality through partnerships with high-quality overseas institutions and attracting more international students to study at NCUE.
Assistant Vice President Clemons introduced Philadelphia, where Temple University is located, as the second-largest city on the East Coast of the United States. It's where the Declaration of Independence and the Constitution were drafted and signed, making it the first World Heritage City in the nation. Additionally, it is among the top ten US cities for startup economies, and a hub for Fortune 500 companies. Philadelphia is 40% more affordable in terms of living costs compared to New York City and is in proximity to New York City and Washington, D.C.
Ms. Clemons mentioned that the 1+1 dual Master's program at Temple University offers a choice of 9 departments across 5 colleges, allowing students to acquire two master's degrees in two years. As for the DBMD program, it is available for application during the junior or senior years or post-graduation. There are over 60 departments to choose from, and students can obtain both Bachelor's and Master's degrees in as little as five years.
According to Ms. Clemons, except for the Business School, most departments waive the requirement for GRE or GMAT scores. If students intend to study a program different from that at NCUE, many departments have prerequisite courses that must be completed before continuing. It is recommended to prepare in advance by studying a minor while at NCUE.
Ms. Clemons mentioned that most DBMD students are eligible for receiving equivalent scholarships covering 10% to 20% of tuition fees. Temple University also offers research and teaching assistantships, which cover up to the full tuition fees. Temple University provides individual assistance for the application process, course planning, airport pickup, accommodation arrangements, internships, and employment. Moreover, Temple hosts an annual International Student Career Week and Career and Internship Fairs every semester, where participating companies offer internship and job opportunities.
Dean Lee of the International Office pointed out that the partnership with Temple is just the beginning. It provides students with a good opportunity to enhance their international mobility and explore their potential at a globally renowned academic institution. Students who are interested in participating are welcome to contact the International Office for further information.
